T60 Lenovo: The Preferred Business Notebook:
The ThinkPad T-series of notebooks has always been the preferred notebook for professionals and business users and the Lenovo T60 is the latest addition to that. This is the first version of the T-series notebook from the Lenovo stable after taking it over from IBM. The T60 Lenovo retains the traditional black casing design but is loaded with the latest memory chips and has a host of new features.
The Lenovo ThinkPad T60 notebook is one of the first ThinkPads to feature Intel’s core 2 duo processor (2GHz T7200 processor). The other notable T60 Lenovo specs are: it features a 15.4 monitor which is shorter in height but is wider to provide widescreen view. This provides a better display of multiple applications running side by side. It comes with 1 GB of RAM which can be expanded up to 4 GB. It also comes equipped with a PC card slot as well as a Express card slot and has 3 USB and 1 VGA ports. It also comes with a fingerprint reader (optional) to provide better security to the laptop.
As with all Thinkpad notebooks, with the Lenovo T60 laptop, the focus is more on usability and durability than on looks. To this end, this laptop comes equipped with a spill proof keyboard, a shock mounted hard drive (120 GB) and an active protection system. It also the features the traditional but excellent deep depressing keyboard along with the red eraserhead pointing system and a small touch pad each of which come with their own set of mouse buttons.
In keeping with its “functionality first” objective, the T60 Lenovo laptop doesn’t have many of the multimedia connectivity options such as S-video, media card reader and a firewire but it provides all the connectivity options that a business user could want. It provides connectivity to Gigabit Ethernet, 56Kbps modem, Bluetooth as well as 802.11a/b/g wireless. Also integration to ‘wide-area wireless connectivity’ options such as GPRS, 3G and even the HSPDA has been announced by Lenovo which would further enhance the connectivity options of this notebook.
It also provides connectivity to a docking station which can make the T60 even more convenient and useful. The Lenovo T60 docking station can be used to connect the notebook with a larger external monitor and also provide connection to an external keyboard or an external mouse if the touchpad doesn’t make one feel too comfortable. Basically, a docking station provides access to all the peripheral systems such as printers, scanners etc which make working on the laptop much more useful and comfortable.
Depending on the configuration of the laptop, Lenovo provides a simple 1 year warranty or a lengthy 3 year warranty. The support from Lenovo (and earlier IBM) is generally considered to be quite good but for the warranty to be utilized, the machine must be taken to an authorized service center. There is also a support website which features a number of useful trouble shooting options. While being helpful, what this site basically lacks is interactivity; there are no online chats with technicians or discussion forums in which the users can discuss and find solutions from other users.
So based on the Lenovo T60 review, it can be concluded that this laptop is an ideal machine for professionals and business users with its multitude of connectivity options and great computing power. The Lenovo ThinkPad T60 takes the Thinkpad legacy forward by retaining the best features of the previous thinkpad notebooks while also enhancing the capability and usability by adding cutting-edge features.
